Bookstore Closing - No Credit Card Orders

We regret  to announce that the AFSC Bookstore will be closing its doors as of September 30th.   We reached this decision with difficulty, but we have concluded that that in the online age, there  are many other convenient ways  for our customers to purchase their Quaker and social action titles, including FGC’s www.Quakerbooks.com.

We will be continuing to sell books on the website until at least the end of September, but we will no longer be accepting credit cards for payment, and orders will need to be prepaid. When you finalize your order, you will see instructions (and will receive a confirming email) about the amount due and where to send your check.

On the positive side, we are now offering most of our stock at bargain basement prices, so this would be a great time to enhance your personal  or Meeting libraries. Most of our reduced-price offering can also be purchased from us through Amazon at: http://www.amazon.com/shops/AD051XSM1S1TF

If you have any questions or want to talk to us about an order, please leave a message at (213) 489-1900, ext 130.

Thank you for your past support for the bookstore.  And keep reading!

New and Recommended:

Just Like Us: the True Story of Four Mexican Girls Coming of Age in America
Helen Thorpe

Just Like Us"A powerful and moving account of four young women from Mexico who have lived most of their lives in the United States and attend the same high school.  Two of them have legal documentation, and two do not.  Just Like Us is their story." -- Jacket flap

"This is a penetrating, fair, and refreshingly personal examination of the passions that fuel the immigration controversy in this country.  Helen Thorpe measures the arguments on both sides of this national debate against the actual human costs imposed by the status quo.  This book will find a central place in this debate." -- Lawrence Wright.

Ending the U.S. War in Afghanistan: a Primer
David Wildman and Phyllis Bennis

Ending the U.S. War in Afghanistan "In this easy-to-read volume of frequently asked questions, analysts Wildman and Bennis examine the wide range of issues key to understanding and ending the US war in Afghanistan." -- Back cover

"Wildman and Bennis have written an invaluable guide to thought, policy, and action on Afghanistan.  Their up-to-date assessments are reliable, persuasive, and should shock even the most apathetic of readers into a realization that if America walks further down the path of counterinsurgency war, it will deepen the Afghan tragedy."  -- Richard Falk
